A New Urban Hub in West Calgary

West District is a proposal for a unique master planned neighbourhood in west Calgary. Located within the community of West Springs, the Plan Area is approximately 96 acres (39 hectares) in sizeTruman Development Corporation has assembled a large area of adjoined lands within the Plan Area and it is one of the last large pockets of undeveloped land in the region.  Due the historical subdivision character of the area, the surrounding lands are heavily fragmented and this has resulted in a pattern of development that has primarily been incremental, ad hoc, low-density and single use. This large land assembly is a unique opportunity to master plan and sensitively intensify the overall number of people and jobs in the region.

West District is a proposed as Major Activity Centre or what the City of Calgary’s Municipal Development Plan describes as a compact, high intensity (people and jobs), transit-supportive, and mixed-use neighbourhood that can have an unprecedented impact in implementing City Council’s Smart Growth goals.

In advance of preparing the Master Plan, the multi-disciplinary project team has implemented one of the most progressive developer-led public engagement programs in Calgary’s history through a purpose-built engagement space.  EngageHub is a space that offers the public a unique and sustained engagement environment rich with evolving planning and design information, and with access to one-on-one expert facilitation.
