CivicWorks Studio members act as industry representatives in the creation Calgary’s next generation of growth plans.
The City of Calgary has embarked on a process of new growth plan creation, replacing over 200 plans for specific communities with approximately 40 new plans that gather communities based on shared geographies and resources. This exercise will streamline the Local Area Planning (LAP) process, serving all Calgarians better through fresher and more efficient policy that provides greater clarity at the community level on growth and change.
A key part of The City’s outreach for the LAP process is the establishment of a working group comprised of community association members, community members at large, and industry representatives, all of whom are meant to be the most engaged citizens on a three year LAP drafting period, from visioning to approvals. Several members of the CivicWorks studio have volunteered our time in the communities we live and work to provide our expert opinion and advice on the draft plans, helping to shape where it makes sense for communities to grow, with focus on scale and use mix.
