Main Streets for
Calgary's future.
In 2018, CivicWorks helped spearhead Advocates into Main Streets (AIMS), an unprecedented alliance of fifty-plus organizations comprised of Community Associations, Business Improvement Areas, active inner-city developers and planning and design professionals all working towards better neighbourhoods and stronger main streets.
As partners in the City's long-term vision to balance growth and investment between Established and Developing areas, AIMS rallied to call for continued funding and support of Calgary's Main Streets. This grassroots effort created a strong, unified voice, helping secure $30M in new funding for reinvestment, greater amenities, and stimulated growth in Calgary's established communities.
The result: capitalizing on existing infrastructure, growing a more mixed non-residential tax base, and creating more complete communities with new small business and employment opportunities for Calgarians.
