In 2019, CivicWorks participated in Calgary's fourth annual PARK(ing) Day, an open-source global event where metered parking spaces are temporarily transformed into public spaces.
Conceived in partnership with Ken Landauer from FN Furniture, BOOMBENCH is a custom design intervention made from a single sheet of plywood with nearly-zero material waste that integrates numerous best practices in public space and seating design: the integration of greenery and shade; the use of wood for resistance to temperature variations; a properly sized and angled seat and backrest; and a wide armrest at the right height for optimal comfort and support, maintaining both mobility and independence.
